Dermaplaning is a safe and effective physical exfoliation method that requires the use of a medical-grade sterile surgical scalpel to gently shave the top layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, dead skin layer, and vellus hair, aka peach fuzz, leaving the skin smoother with an instant glow, improving acne scarring, hyperpigmentation whilst diminishing the appearance of dry, fine lines. The treatment is the superficial, epidermal layer only and is suitable during pregnancy.

This treatment is similar to microdermabrasion but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals. The manual exfoliation triggers the cell regeneration process to allow products and peels to penetrate deeply into the skin. It also prepares the skin for further rejuvenating procedures such as laser treatments and deeper chemical peels.

The treatment has been practiced by dermatologists and plastic surgeons for over 40 years but has increased in popularity over the past 2 years.

Frequently Asked Questions:-

How effective is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is very effective and the results can be seen at the end if you like to look at your own dead skin cells that have been trapping dirt and clogged products. If you wish to see how effective it is please ask me and I would be glad to show you.

Is there any downtime? I would say not really from what my clients have experienced so far, but everyones skin can react differently.

Does it hurt? No

Who is this treatment ideal for?  All skin types and tones but unfortunately not for those with active acne or rosacea or other contraindicated skin conditions, please fully complete the ‘Enquiry Form’ at the bottom of the Chemical Peel Page.

What products are used?

Dermaplaning can be tailored in conjunction with other treatments whereby products are used for your specific skin type and results required. However Dermaplaning is a treatment of its own (of course I will cleanse the face and apply a cooling collagen mask at the end), any additional products and treatments will be charged. If you really want to treat yourself check out my ‘Red Carpet Facial’ below, which includes Dermaplaning.

Will the vellus hair turn into terminal hair?

No. The only time the villus hair turns into terminal hair is during puberty or the years after depending on hormones. These changes are attributed to testosterone production in the body. Dermaplaning simply removes the hairs at the surface of the skin, although it may initially feel thicker when it grows back this is easily explained. The hair is removed at an angle, when it grows back you can feel the blunt tip of the hair, but the hair is the same thickness as it was before and if left can return to normal.

Can I have this treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Absolutely yes (unlike most of my treatments where this is not the case). This treatment is not using any products that act at a cellular level e.g Chemicals peels, therefore Dermaplaning is safe if you a pregnant or breastfeeding and could be a welcoming, relaxing treat for mothers.
